It is time once again for the very exciting event known as the Red Bull Rookies Cup, which is a tournament that features the 125 cc class of KTM bikes that are ridden by the future starts of tomorrow on the MotoGP Circuit. These riders have not yet competed in a MotoGP event and many different riders have passed through this series to compete with the big boys in the other classes. Some of the names that you might recognize from that include the runner up from the 2008 edition, Luis Salom and both the winner and runner up of the 2009 edition.
This series started in 2007 and the only manufacturer is KTM. Last year, Lorenzo Baldassarri took the championship home. First place in this series gets 25 points, while second gets 20 and 16 points goes to the third place rider. Besides Baldassarri who won last year, with Arthur Sissis as the runner up, other winners have include Jacob Gagne from the 2010 edition with Danny Kent as the runner up. Jakub Kornfeil won the event in 2009 with Sturla Fagerhaug as the runner up and the 2008 champion was J.D. Beach. Johann Zarco won the first year.
