Maria de Villota will be joining the testing line-up for Marussia. The Spaniard has raced in various other competitions, both single seater and sports cars, including the Spanish Formula 3, Euroseries 3000, Superleague Formula and the Daytona 24 Hours. Maria de Villota is the daughter of a prior Foruma One driver, Emilio de Villota and has already been behind the wheel of a Formula One vehicle. This year, she will be able to work right alongside other Marussia drivers like Charles Pic and Timo Glock as well as get a chance to test the MR01.
She called working with the team a “fantastic opportunity” and said that she would be able to gain valuable experience from working with them. She will be driving the new car later in the year at the Abu Dhabi test and said that she was looking forward to working with the team track side to help her achieve her future goals to race in Formula One. Other women that have competed in Formula One include Giovanna Amati, Maria Teresa de Filippis and Lella Lombardi as well as Desire Wilson and Briton Divina Galica.
